Mashujaa Day: Full list of 220 Kenyan heroes, heroines honoured by President Kenyatta
Audio By Vocalize
For years now, the Government of Kenya has been accused of neglecting
and not acknowledging surviving freedom fighters and other heroes and heroines
despite their efforts in liberating the country from colonial rule.
The government and the people of Kenya have a responsibility to honour
these heroic individuals for the part they played in the fight for
independence; and as beacons of inspiration for present and future generations.
In its preamble, the constitution recognizes all individuals who put
their lives on the line during our fight for independence and those who have
made immense contribution towards the unity of our nation. To this effect
the constitution has set aside a national day, designated Mashujaa Day, to be
observed on every 20th October in honour of our heroes and heroines by
highlighting the role they have played in the development of Kenya.
This year’s theme “Nchi yangu. Jukumu langu. Mimi, Ni Shujaa!” clearly
demonstrates the pride with which Kenyans hold our national heroes and
especially the good work of the Kenya Defense Forces and our world conquering
sportsmen and women. It also reiterates our liberation fathers’ conviction that
in unity this country can achieve greater heights of social and economic
development.
This year, these heroes and heroines will be honoured for efforts made
