A sombre mood has gripped Kabong'o Village in Kokwanyo East Location, Rachuonyo East Sub-county, following the brutal murder of a Maseno University finance officer who was killed in what is suspected to have been a land-related attack.

Dr. Daniel Odhiambo Dondi, an employee in the university's Department of Finance, was hacked to death on Saturday evening as he returned home after leaving his farmhand with cattle in the field.

According to his father, Michael Dondi, the suspect had concealed himself inside a maize plantation armed with a panga. As Dr. Dondi approached his gate, the assailant emerged and struck him on the head with the weapon.

Dr. Odhiambo collapsed from the severity of his injuries as the attacker continued assaulting him on the ground. The assault only stopped after his daughter, who witnessed the attack, raised an alarm that caused the suspect to flee.

Michael Dondi told Ramogi FM that his son and the suspect had been engaged in a legal dispute over a boundary prior to the fatal attack.

Homa Bay County Police Commander confirmed that the suspect has since been arrested and is being held at Ringa Police Station, awaiting arraignment.

Dr. Odhiambo's body was transferred to Rachuonyo South Sub-county Hospital in Oyugis Town.
