The growing influx of refugees has raised concerns about security and public health risks, prompting the Marsabit County Government to pledge continued support while appealing to humanitarian organisations for additional assistance to cope with the crisis.

Questions have emerged over what may have fuelled the conflict, including alleged remarks by some Kenyan leaders of Somali origin.

“Kama viongozi hatupaswi kutamka maneno ambayo hayafai na kuchochea hali hii... Let's be responsible leaders,” says Governor Ali Mohamud Mohamed.

The conflict is also taking a toll on livelihoods, with businesses in Moyale on both sides of the border severely affected.

Trucks transporting various goods have remained stranded for days, disrupting cross-border trade as the fighting persists.

Meanwhile, concerns are mounting that the violence could spill into Kenyan territory. Reports of bullets crossing the border have heightened safety concerns among residents.
