Maraga takes Ukatiba Caravan to US diaspora community

In a statement released on Wednesday, the visit comes after Maraga successfully concluded his nationwide Ukatiba Caravan tour of 43 counties.

The tour began in February to April this year. During that period, he engaged directly with Kenyans on the state of the nation.

“The 2010 Constitution explicitly affirms the vital role of Kenyans in the Diaspora, and cements their participation in Kenya’s development and democratic processes,” read the statement in part.

According to Maraga, the United States is the single largest source of diaspora remittances to Kenya, accounting for what he believes to be over 50 per cent of the total monthly and annual inflows from abroad.

Maraga has planned to meet diaspora communities in Delaware, Texas, and New York. Also, he has planned to engage with communities in New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Georgia, among other states.

The United Green Movement Presidential aspirant has revealed that he will also be seeking to engage with international leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
