Maraga releases police reforms taskforce report, demands full implementation

Last week, Maraga had challenged President William Ruto to discharge his constitutional and administrative duty by releasing the report, which he submitted on November 16, 2023. Failure to which, Maraga said he would release it to the public himself. 

The former Chief JUSTICE, in a press address on Monday, demanded the full implementation of the police taskforce reforms.

The former CJ, who chaired the taskforce committee, laughed off the unveiling of new police uniforms on Friday. 

The new uniforms, he said, are already riddled with opaqueness and corruption. He said the move was not urgent in enabling reforms in the sector.

Maraga said the full implementation of the taskforce report by the state will ensure the independence of the National Police Service (NPS), especially during the election season. 

The United Green Movement presidential aspirant warned that a partisan police service is bound to plunge the country into violence, urging Ruto to expedite the police reform recommendations.

At the same time, Maraga took a jibe at Inspector General Douglas Kanja and DCI  boss Amin Mohamed, who he says are in office illegally following their attainment of retirement age.

Maraga told the NPSC to move with speed and advertise the two security chief posts for a competitive, fair hiring process.
