Maraga appoints Mkawasi Mcharo, David Makali to presidential campaign secretariat

In a statement on Monday, Maraga announced that the secretariat will be based in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, and will be led by Mkawasi Mcharo and David Makali.

Mcharo has been appointed as the Co-Executive Director of the Presidential Campaign Secretariat and will oversee strategy, policy and diaspora affairs.

Maraga described her as a scholar and governance expert with over two decades of leadership experience, noting her role in advancing social justice, dual citizenship and the establishment of Kenya's first presidential debate. 

On the other hand, Makali joins the campaign as Communications Coordinator. The veteran journalist and political communication specialist has more than 30 years' experience in the media and civil society. 

The appointments form part of Maraga's preparations for his 2027 presidential bid under the United Green Movement.
