Manhunt launched for 3 armed robbers caught on CCTV raiding Kisumu estate

Police have launched investigations after a gang of three armed robbers raided a residential estate in Kisumu, leaving one person injured and making away with property of unknown value.

The early morning attack, which was captured on CCTV, occurred at Kamrongo Estate, where the suspects reportedly terrorised residents using crude weapons before fleeing.

Footage from the security cameras shows the three men scaling the estate's gate at around 3am before making their way into one of the houses. The gang allegedly stole valuables while threatening occupants against raising an alarm.

One of the victims recounted the terrifying ordeal, saying the attackers forced their way into the house and threatened to shoot them if they resisted.

"Walikuwa watu wawili na walikuwa wanasema ‘usijaribu kupiga kelele hapa tutakushoot’, sasa wakanivuta kuenda mpaka bedroom, huko tukawapea simu zote zenye tulikuwa nazo,” a resident said.

Another resident said one of the suspects brandished what appeared to be a firearm after finding him unafraid.

"Walikuja wakapiga torch kwangu ndani, sasa vile aliona siogopi akarushiwa gun akaanza kunitishia tishia nayo, but vile aliona ata mimi niko na panga wakatoka wakaenda,” another resident stated.

Residents say Kamrongo Estate has witnessed a surge in insecurity over the past three months, with criminal gangs becoming increasingly bold in their operations.

One resident recalled an earlier incident in which a suspected thief allegedly attempted to attack members of the public responding to a distress call.

"Kuna mwizi fulani alikuwa amebeba TV vile alituona akasema kuna wengine hapa kujeni, so alikuwa anaim kudunga mtu akarusha crowbar ikapata mum kwa uso,” said another resident.

Kamrongo Neighbours Association Chairman Moses Kidi called on the National Police Service (NPS) to enhance patrols in the area by providing officers with adequate transport.

"If this police station can be enhanced by giving them transport, then they can do regular patrols because we have a very good response team at Chiga, but now movement has been a problem,” Kidi stated.

One person is currently receiving treatment following the robbery.

Police have launched a manhunt for the three suspects, who remain at large, as investigations into the incident continue.
