Security forces in Mandera County remain on high alert following an attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants on Wednesday night.

Police report that the incident occurred at Jabi Quick Response Unit (QRU Camp) in Lafey Sub-County. Intelligence sources confirm a group of heavily armed militants attempted to take over the security installation a few minutes past 7:00 PM on Wednesday.

Additional information from Lafey Police Station reveals that approximately 10 suspected Al-Shabaab militants launched the assault from the north-east side of Jabi QRU Camp.

The attackers opened fire from a distance of about 600 meters, attempting to test the base's defensive perimeters.

However, QRU officers responded swiftly with heavy counter-fire, successfully repulsing the militants back into the scrubland.

Local authorities report zero casualties or injuries among the security officers. No damage to the camp facility was recorded.

The situation is currently described as fully under control, with standard lockdown protocols initiated throughout the night.
