The Mandera County Government has donated KSh 3.5 million to traders affected by a fire that razed sections of Bus Park Market in Mandera Town on September 22, 2026.

Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif announced the financial support during a meeting with affected traders, where he also pledged to work with the National Government to reconstruct the market.

Accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr. Ali Mohamud, Khalif engaged the traders on the losses suffered following the fire, which disrupted businesses and livelihoods.

The county government said the funds would provide immediate relief to the affected traders as efforts to restore business operations continue.

Khalif further assured the traders that his administration would pursue the reconstruction of the market in partnership with the National Government to provide a more permanent trading facility.

However, the county did not disclose how the KSh 3.5 million would be distributed among the affected traders or provide a timeline for the proposed reconstruction.

In a separate event, Governor Khalif commissioned new solid waste management equipment for Mandera Municipality as part of efforts to improve garbage collection and sanitation services.

The equipment is expected to enhance waste collection efficiency and strengthen municipal waste management operations.
