Man crushed to death by tractor in Kirinyaga

A 30-year-old man died on the spot after being crushed by a tractor he was driving at Ciagini village in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, as he allegedly attempted to light a cigarette.

The deceased, identified as Edward Munene, is suspected to have lost control of the tractor, which ran over him with its rear tyre.

According to his brother, Muchiri Njine, the incident occurred along the Kwibota-Ciagini road as they headed home after ploughing a nearby farm.

Munene, who was employed as a tractor driver by Benson Kabiro, was accompanied by a conductor when the accident occurred.

A resident, Peter Karanja, said the conductor reported that Munene had asked him to help light a cigarette when the tractor suddenly lost control and crushed him.

The accident occurred near the gate of Ciagini Primary School, shocking residents who gathered at the scene.

Police from Kiamaciri Police Station moved the body to Kibugi Funeral Home in Kutus, while the tractor was towed to Sagana Police Station as investigations continue.
