A man was arraigned in court and charged for impersonating a senior military officer and using the identity to defraud several MPESA agents in Nairobi area.

Benson Makan Baiyo alias Lieutenant Colonel Benson Boiyo Makan impersonated Lieutenant Colonel Benson Boiyo Makan of Kenya Air Force Moi Airbase.

It is alleged that Baiyo, together with others who were not in court, without authority, made a Kenya Defence Forces identity card in the name of the officer purporting it to be a genuine KDF card which they have  been using it to defraud MPESA agents.

He denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo who released him on Ksh 100,000 cash bail pending hearing of the case on July 27th, 2015.

Cases of such nature have been common in the country.

In January, a Nairobi businessman was charged with stealing an identity card belonging to former Kilome MP John Harun Mwau, which he allegedly used to register an M-Pesa account fraudulently.
