The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a man accused of impersonating one of its investigators and soliciting a bribe from a member of the public.
The suspect, identified as Felix Manyaga Mogaka, is alleged
to have posed as an EACC investigator and falsely claimed that a company
contracted by the Narok County government was under investigation for
corruption.
According to EACC, Mogaka contacted a director of the
company and informed him that the firm was being investigated before demanding
Ksh.2 million to allegedly stop further action.
Following a complaint from the said director, EACC mounted
an operation that led to Mogaka’s arrest on June 22, 2026.
The commission said the suspect was arrested while allegedly
receiving Ksh.200,000, part of the demanded bribe.
EACC Head of Corporate Communications Stephen Karuga confirmed
the arrest, saying that Mogaka is not an employee of the commission.
The suspect is currently being processed at the Integrity
Centre pending the completion of investigations.
EACC has cautioned members of the public against dealing
with individuals claiming to influence investigations on behalf of the
Commission.
While urging the public to report any individuals misusing
the commission's name for fraud or extortion, the agency noted that official
summonses are issued in writing and require individuals to appear at EACC
offices.
“The commission does not conduct meetings in hotels or
solicit payments to influence investigations,” Karuga noted.
