A family in Malava, Kakamega County is mourning the death of their 29-year-old son who died after a burning house collapsed on him as he struggled to remove some firewood from the house Monday morning.
The deceased, Patrick Lumumba, a father of five, is said to have gone into the burning house to fetch firewood for domestic use when it collapsed on him.
According to his mother, Mary Lumumba, she found her son’s lifeless body stuck in the debris of the burnt house.
“The weak walls of the house fell on my son killing him after a short while. I called for help but it was too late. It is very unfortunate since he has left behind five kids,” cried Ms Lumumba.
The family now wants the county government to intervene and help in the raising five children left behind by the deceased adding that he was the only bread-winner.
