Malkia Strikers breathing fire ahead of Egypt clash

The Malkia Strikers face Egypt on Friday at 6 PM in the CAVB African Nations Women’s Volleyball Championship final at Kasarani Indoor Arena following their triamp 3-0 win against Cameroon in the semi final.

Reflecting on the tactical challenge ahead, Omondi noted that while Cameroon relied on raw physicality, Egypt will present a completely different test on the court.

‎"The match might be more difficult than Cameroon because Egypt are a bit technical.  Cameroon had a lot of power, so we managed their power, but Egypt is a bit technical, so we also have to be very clinical in order for us to beat them. It's not going to be easy, but we'll beat them," Omondi assured.

‎He further hinted at line-up changes, emphasising that squad depth remains Kenya's biggest strength being part of the tactical decisions he will use to make sure his charges lift the continental crown on home soil.

‎"These players that we have in the national team, any of them can deliver. we might have a very different lineup again. The end goal is to win. This trophy must remain at home, we must go to the Olympics," said Omondi.

‎Team captain Meldina Sande backed her coach’s tactical approach, refusing to give away their strategy while expressing immense gratitude to the home crowd for acting as the team's "seventh player."

‎As the captain, I'll not reveal any game plan because the coach is tactical.  He is a coach who knows how to plan the game properly. Expect to win; whichever player starts on the court will bring the win home," Sande stated.

‎"Kenyans, thank you so much. You showed up in large numbers and left all that you were doing. Please come in large numbers again. We are Kenyans—one team, one mission," she added.

‎Star opposite attacker Merlin Tata, who earned her second consecutive Player of the Match award following her dominant performance against Cameroon, credited her teammates for her form and declared the squad ready for the final battle.

‎"I am very grateful to the coaches and my fellow players because without them, I wouldn't have received this award. Egypt has great players too, but we believe in ourselves more. We are ready as Kenya, and the cup stays in Kenya," Tata averred.

‎The 10-time African champions are now only one away from retaining their continental crown as they aim for a record-extending 11th title with 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games ticket up for grabs.
