Rexley Malenya has set his sights on guiding National Super League, NSL, side Nzoia Sugar FC back to the Kenyan Premier League, KPL, after being appointed the club’s new head coach.
Malenya has signed a two-year contract with the Millers and says he has already communicated the club’s promotion ambitions to his players.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, the tactician identified a top-three finish in the NSL as the immediate target for the upcoming season, believing it would put Nzoia Sugar in a strong position to secure promotion.
“I thank the club management for granting me this opportunity. We will keep putting in effort, because we have already agreed with the players that our main target is to finish among the top three and earn promotion back to the KPL,” he said.
Malenya has also begun shaping his squad ahead of the new campaign, with the club currently conducting trials for players hoping to earn contracts.
“By Friday, we will have a clear picture of the players that will be with us in camp for the new season. We are also expecting departures, new arrivals, and the players that have remained with the team from last season will also be available,” he added.
Nzoia Sugar are also planning more than four pre-season friendlies as Malenya assesses his squad, tests different tactical approaches and builds cohesion ahead of the NSL campaign.
With recruitment and preparations already underway, Malenya will be hoping to lay a strong foundation for Nzoia Sugar’s push to return to Kenya’s top flight.
