Boda boda operators in Makueni County are lamenting increased cases of insecurity within the devolved unit.

The operators now say incidents of theft of their motorcycles, as well as shootings of their colleagues have been rampant of late.

According to the riders, despite continuously pressing the police to join forces and bring the culprits to book, no action has been taken, leading to many stolen motorbikes being diverted to Tanzania.

While this is happening, motorcycle lending companies in the area have also denied claims of involvement in theft of the bikes, adding that they’re putting strategies in place to ensure that these cases come to an end.

Boda boda operators inMakindu, Kibwezi and Emali have also received instructions on how to improve their safety while at work as a preventative measure.

This comes two weeks after five suspected motorcycle thieves, including two Tanzanians, were arrested and charged with robbery and assault in Makueni.
