Kabati Youth have confirmed the appointment of Owen Makokha as their new head coach, marking yet another managerial shift in the ever-changing landscape of Kenya’s National Super League (NSL).

The move, finalised on Thursday comes just days after Makokha parted ways with Soy United, where he had served as assistant coach for nearly five months.

Makokha steps into the role following the dismissal of Haji Bilal, who was relieved of his duties after a string of poor results left Kabati Youth languishing in 17th place with 27 points.

Tasked with steering the club away from relegation danger, the CAF B Licence holder returns to a head coaching position, having previously built his profile at Naivas FC, Fortune Sacco, and Kibera Blackstars.

At Kabati, he will work alongside Arnold Irungu, who retains his position as assistant coach despite the recent shake-up. The club hopes the new technical pairing can inject stability and spark a turnaround in fortunes as the season enters a critical phase.

Makokha’s appointment is part of a broader wave of coaching changes sweeping across the NSL. Mwatate United have also made headlines after naming James Tole as their new head coach, assisted by Darius Mwale. The duo replaces Evans Mafuta and Ali Ochieng, who were both dismissed earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Mombasa United are undergoing internal adjustments, with assistant coach Hamadi Said set to lead the team in their upcoming fixture against Soy United.

Experienced defender Rodgers Aloro has also been drafted into the technical bench, signaling a shift in the club’s approach. Former Mathare United assistant Mohammed Muchula is currently set to take over as the permanent head coach.

With multiple clubs reshuffling their benches, the NSL is witnessing a decisive period where managerial decisions could define survival and promotion battles alike.
