Maina wins National Association of Korea Marathon

Stephen Maina emerged the winner of men's 20 km half marathon of the National Association of Korea Marathon held in Nyahururu town, Saturday.
Maina Clocked 1:21:26 to win the race beating his closest
rivals Titus Waithaka and Alex Kamau who came second and third after clocking
1:30:44 and 1:42:88 respectively.
In the 10 Km women’s race, Magrete Akindong’ Athike clocked
33:32:90 to beat Tabitha Njeri who came second in 33:37:41 and Rose Wangui who
finished 3’rd in 33:40:32.
The National National Marathon Association of Korea Time
Trials attracted over 600 athletes training in Nyahururu town and its environs,
and was meant to select both elite and up-coming athletes to train in Korea.
According to Joel Kimaru, a veteran coach who trains in
Korea, the event was a time trial and is intended to select individual athletes
who can train and participate in Korean races.
Park Sung Gun, an official and athlete from the National
Association of Korea Marathon said Kenya was a country bestowed with conducive
and favourable climatic conditions for athletes and this was one of the reasons
why it produces most of the best athletes both locally and internationally.
