At the beginning of the season, Bungoma Queens had set an ambitious target of finishing among the top three teams in the league.
However, the side fell short of that objective and eventually ended the season in seventh place.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mabonga explained that the financial struggles affected the team’s ability to prepare adequately for the season, which in turn contributed to inconsistent performances throughout the campaign.
"We had our target, which was finishing among the top four, but it was difficult to attain because we started the season poorly because of lack of funds, which led to poor preparation," he said.
He also pointed to the team’s poor start as one of the major reasons they could not recover in time to challenge for the top positions.
In addition, the coach expressed disappointment over the conduct and commitment levels of the team’s goalkeeper, saying it negatively affected the squad during crucial moments of the season.
Despite enjoying strong support from fans whenever they played at home, Mabonga noted that the team failed to fully capitalize on that advantage.
According to the coach, Bungoma Queens dropped important points at home in matches they were expected to win.
The team’s decline in performance is reflected in their league standings over the past two seasons.
Bungoma Queens finished fifth during the 2024/2025 campaign but dropped to seventh place in the recently concluded season.
Mabonga now hopes the club will address the challenges experienced this season in order to improve and compete more strongly in the next campaign.
