According to Lubarov, their latest conquest of their readiness to reclaim their topflight title after failing to do so for two seasons on the bounce.
The victory saw Dumas conclude their first-leg fixtures on a positive note after overcoming a physical and tightly contested encounter.
“It was another example of the resilience that my team keeps showing. We always seem to have a few extra variables to manage, but my guys continue to find a way through them.
I will say that playing at USIU rather than Nyayo Gymnasium changed the complexion of the game. It was a physical, slow-paced and grinding affair, which is exactly what they wanted it to be.
I think we are a different kind of team, so to grind one out like that and come away with a low-scoring win really says a lot about our character,” said Lubarov.
Regarding controversies on officiating that rocked the match, the tactician admitted the nature of the fixture made decisions difficult for match officials to make critical calls.
“Regarding the officiating, which was controversial, I do not envy referees when Ulinzi is involved.
The soldiers bring physical intensity that demands a response, and managing that on the whistle is genuinely difficult.
And we had to deal with some calls that were hard to swallow, but I think Ulinzi did as well.”
Looking ahead to the second leg, Lubarov expressed confidence in his team’s development and belief that there is still more to come.
“And I’m genuinely pleased with our growth, and I’m also optimistic about the second leg. Hopefully, we can secure the right venues for training and matches, and we stay healthy, which we’ve been lucky to do.
I really, really believe the potential for this Equity team is huge, and if we continue building in the right direction, there’s a lot more to come from this group.”
Both Equity and Ulinzi finished the first leg with 17 points, after playing 11 matches, winning six and losing five each.
