Kenyan supply chain and logistics software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider Leta has raised $5 million (Ksh.648 million) in seed capital to scale its Africa operations.

The start-up was founded in 2021 by Nick Joshi and uses artificial intelligence (AI) to enable efficient and automated movement of goods for businesses and streamline payments.

European venture capital (VC) firm Speedinvest led the investment round while Google and the African climate tech start-up-focused VC firm Equator also participated.

Leta’s platform enables distributors to see the most efficient route to serve the customers quicker, enabling them to use fewer vehicles to serve more customers.

Hauliers have a dedicated driver app that shows them all the different stops they need to make. It also gives them a sign-off form for proof of delivery.

Customers meanwhile receive a web link to track the delivery of their orders.

The company currently operates in Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Nigeria, where it is also based.

Leta says it has over 35 top businesses like EABL, Diageo and KFC on its platform.

With the new funding, Joshi told the U.S. industry news outlet TechCrunch they seek to double revenue in the coming months and increase their footprint across Africa and the Middle East.

In November 2022, Leta closed a $3 million pre-seed round (Ksh.367 million at the time) from 4Di Capital, Chandaria Capital, Chui Ventures, PANI, Samurai Incubate and Verdant Frontiers, alongside several angel investors.
