Kenyans plan to hold the second commemoration of the victims of the June 25, 2024, Gen Z-led protests on Thursday.

A number of Kenyans, including some of the survivors, plan to conduct a nationwide protest and candle lighting ceremony to honour the fallen heroes.

The June 25, 2024, protests, which saw Kenya's parliament breached, have been portrayed as the bellwether of an indelible shift in the nation's civic advocacy.

Kenyan youth, mostly the Gen Zs, protested a Finance Bill that proposed excessive taxes, agitating for political etiquette and even the removal of President William Ruto and other leaders.

Two years on, memories of June 25 linger as families of nearly 19 people who were killed during anti-tax protests await justice.

In 2025, Kenyans commemorated the 1st anniversary of the Gen Z protests, leading to the death of nearly 16 others due to gunshot wounds and injuries from police brutality.

President William Ruto has, however, cautioned against any form of chaos, destruction of property, or disruption of essential services ahead of the anniversary protests.

Here are updates on the June 25 protests happening on Thursday;
