Lionesses' Adhiambo joins Nagato Blue of Japan

The fly half player joins on a six-month deal and will be ready to make her debut in the Japanese local sevens campaign which is set to kick off on February 11.

Adhiambo becomes the second Lionesses player to play in Japan, after Janet Okello, who is playing for MIE Pearls Women’s Rugby.

She made her international debut against Japan in the HSBC Women Sevens Series in France in the 2016 tournament.

She made her first try against heavyweights Fiji during the 2018 Commonwealth Games, becoming the only Kenyan on the scorers’ sheet against Fiji in their placing match at the Gold Coast. 

Before then, the youngster joined Nakuru RFC academy while in primary school and later got elevated to the senior team.

She was called to the national team after a superb play in the tenth edition of the Top Fry Prinsloo Women Sevens, which took place in August at the Nakuru Athletic Club.

Adhiambo represented Kenya in the 2018 Hong Kong Sevens and Africa Women’s Cup. She also competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The Blue Angels compete in the Taiyo Seimei Women’s Seven Series, where 12 clubs play in four tournaments over four months to decide a national champion.
