Linda Mwananchi threatens daily protests over party registration delay

The movement alleges there are deliberate efforts by the government to block its registration.

The Linda Mwananchi Movement on Friday took its grassroots campaign to Busia County, drawing large crowds to a series of political rallies.

The movement's leaders accused the government of deliberately frustrating the registration of the Linda Mwananchi Party. They vowed to stage daily protests outside the offices of the Registrar of Political Parties from Monday if their application is not approved.

"We know the schemes being used against us. They have found proxies claiming they have already registered the name Linda Mwananchi. We will not accept that game, and this is a warning to the Registrar of Political Parties," said Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.

Leaders of the movement warned they will sustain the protests until the Linda Mwananchi Party is officially registered.

"If by Monday our name has not been registered, we will begin daily demonstrations outside the registrar's office," Osotsi added.

Sifuna reaffirmed his intention to challenge President Ruto in the next presidential election, insisting that leadership should be judged by performance rather than years in office.

"They say I don't have experience. If experience means killing Gen Z, then let me come with the experience I have," said Sifuna.

Western Kenya leaders threw their weight behind Sifuna's presidential bid, urging the Mulembe community to rally behind a single candidate. They accused the government of sidelining the region and failing to deliver promised development projects.

"Ruto came here and promised to tarmac this road. Did he do it? This is the time for the Mulembe community to lead through Sifuna. What have your leaders in government done? Sugar companies have collapsed, and which roads have they built for us?" said Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale.

The leaders also accused President Ruto's administration of abandoning its campaign promises, saying the President's engagements with various groups at State House are a bid to rebuild political support.

"He has failed after four years. Now he is talking about Vision 2060. His job now is to invite people to State House and give them money. Even if you go, take the money, but buy gas and a mattress. Since launching affordable housing, he said he wanted to eliminate slums. Let him tell us which slums he has eliminated," said Sifuna.

The Busia tour comes ahead of another Linda Mwananchi rally scheduled for Homa Bay County on August 16.
