A section of Linda Mwananchi leaders has threatened to institute a private prosecution against Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and Deputy Director of Criminal Investigations John Onyango following constant harassment of their supporters.

Led by Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, they accused the state of a deliberate mission to frame their supporters through trumped-up charges.

“You are not above the law,” Orengo told Omollo and Onyango.

The opposition leaders accused Omollo and Onyango of being the weak link in the fight to tame hooliganism in the country.

“You [Okoth] are a DCI officer, but your work is to hunt Kenyans,” Babu Owino said, adding that PS Omollo has also been hunting the youth.

Speaking at the DCI headquarters when they went to seek an audience with the directorate bosses, the Linda Mwananchi brigade threatened to take legal action against the duo if attacks and hooliganism against their supporters did not stop.

Orengo and Babu claimed there is an elaborate scheme by the state to intimidate leaders opposed to the current regime.

Orengo told the National Police Service (NPS) to remain independent in their operational mandate as they discharge their duties as enshrined in the Constitution.
