Linda Mwananchi heads to Kakamega as Gachagua takes DCP campaign to Kajiado

The movement will make stops at Sabatia Market at 10.00 am, Isulu Market at noon, Shinyalu Market at 2.00 pm and Kakamega CBD at 4.00 pm.

The tour comes a day after the movement held a meet-and-greet in Busia County, where its leaders made stops in Nambale Town and Butula Centre as they seek to popularise the outfit and woo more Kenyans to its cause.

The ongoing rallies have also provided a platform for the movement's leaders to attack President William Ruto, with the politicians calling for his exit from office at the 2027 election.

Speaking in Busia on Friday, August 7, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna claimed the movement had already gained support across the country.

"Hii muungano inaitwa Linda Mwananchi ilianzia hapa Busia, mkatutuma Kenya nzima. Tumeenda kule Pwani, hakuna kura ya Kasongo. Tumeenda Rift Valley, mmetuona kule Narok, Kajiado, Masaku, Mlolongo, Nakuru, Kisumu, hakuna kura ya Kasongo Kenya nzima. Kuna wakora wawili, watatu hapa Busia wanadanganya Ruto. Kasongo ni one term," Sifuna said.

Sifuna has also increasingly been fronted by his supporters as a possible presidential candidate under the tagline #SisiNiSifuna, although he has not formally declared his intention to run for the presidency.

The push for numbers comes as former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been holding meetings with delegations at his Wamunyoro residence and touring different parts of the country as he seeks to grow the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP's) support base.

On Friday, the former Deputy President was in Kiambu County, where he sought to popularise the party, before heading to Kajiado County on Saturday.

"Our Party, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), is founded on a commitment to engage with and listen to the people, and to act upon their wishes," Gachagua posted on X after the Kiambu tour.

"We are not merely expanding across the country; we are establishing deep roots at the grassroots level, driven by a clear mission to address the grievances of Wananchi and transform their needs into tangible action through genuine service delivery."

The competing mobilisation drives highlight the importance of numbers in politics, particularly as opposition parties seek to build a broad coalition ahead of the 2027 election.

With parties expected to negotiate alliances, the ability to demonstrate strong grassroots support could influence who gets a place in a coalition and, ultimately, who is picked to contest key positions.

Meanwhile, the broad-based government is also expected to hold a Parliamentary Group meeting in Naivasha from Sunday to Tuesday.

The meeting is expected to discuss how the broad-based team will position itself ahead of the 2027 General Election and respond to sustained campaigns and attacks from opposition leaders.
