Police in Uasin Gishu County have identified the body of a man found stuffed inside a metallic box along the Kipkenyo-Kaptinga Road in Uasin Gishu County as LGBTQ+ activist Edwin Chiloba.

The deceased's body was discovered after boda boda operators, plying their trade within the area, informed police of a suspicious-looking vehicle that had dumped the metallic box along the route.

The vehicle's license plates had been obscured according to eyewitnesses.

After arriving at the scene, police opened the box only to discover Chiloba's lifeless and decomposing body which was clad in women's clothing.

Chiloba's body has since been moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital pending postmortem to establish his cause of death.

Police have likewise commenced investigations into the brutal killing as members of Kenya's LGBTQ community mourn the activist.

Last year, Chiloba survived an attack by unknown assailants who roughed him up in public leaving him with serious injuries on the face.
