Last throw: Yego's Commonwealth Games journey ends in Glasgow

Competing in what he confirmed would be his final Commonwealth Games appearance, the 2014 champion finished 13th overall with a best throw of 74.50m.

The automatic qualification mark was 84.00m, with the remaining final places filled by the next best performers after fewer than 12 athletes achieved the standard. Yego's mark was not enough to earn a place in the 12-man final.

Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage winner of the 2026 Kipkeino Classic topped the qualification round with a throw of 82.84m, ahead of Grenada's Anderson Peters (81.29m) and South Africa's Douw Smit (80.64m).

Yego bows out as one of Kenya's greatest field event athletes, having won the Commonwealth title in Glasgow in 2014 before adding the 2015 World Championship crown and the 2016 Olympic silver medal to his glittering career.
