According to EACC sources who spoke to Citizen.Digital, the property taken from Kisite Mpunguti Marine Reserve in Kwale County is worth an estimated Ksh. 305 million and consists of four parcels of land.
The property was illegally obtained from the Kisite/Mpunguti Marine National Reserve, which is a protected, reserved, and gazetted area governed by the KWS.
Three of the four beneficiaries, namely Pwani Holdings Resort Limited, Bantus Investment Limited, and Pangos Limited, agreed to return the stolen property and handed over original titles to the Commission to facilitate the cancellation of the Titles and fresh registration under KWS, the lawful owner.
The EACC is in the process of recovering the fourth piece of land from Zameen Land and Sand Company Limited following the refusal by the suspect to surrender it.
According to detectives familiar with the investigations, the four parcels of land are located approximately 2 hours' travel on water using a powerful KWS patrol boat from the KWS mainland post in Kwale.
Concerns were raised that because the property was so remote from the prying eyes of the public and the police, it would provide an ideal cover for shadowy individuals to conduct illegal trades undetected.
Before the property was recovered by the EACC, investigations revealed how one of the suspects had planned to construct a private airstrip.
