Ochieng, who took over the reins in December 2024 following the departure of Stephen Ocholla, has quickly steadied the ship. He guided the soldiers to an impressive 2–0 victory over Kibera Soccer Women on Sunday, January 18, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex—a result that propelled the Starlets to second place on the league table with 26 points.
Defending champions Kenya Police Bullets remain top with 28 points, but the margin is slim and the title race is heating up.
Four-time champions Vihiga Queens occupy third place on 25 points, while Trinity Starlets and Zetech Sparks sit fourth and fifth with 24 and 21 points respectively.
“We are fully prepared to face Kisped,” said Ochieng. “We met them in the first round at our backyard, the Ulinzi Sports Complex, where we won 4–0. However, we don’t know how they have prepared for this reverse fixture in the second round.
“I thank God that I have no injury concerns. All my players are in good shape and ready to roar on Sunday. A win will take us to the top of the table, and that is something we are very hopeful for.”
Elsewhere on Sunday, Madira Soccer Assassins will face Kisumu All Starlets at Nyang’ori Grounds in Majengo, Kisumu. Bungoma Queens will host Trinity Starlets at Bungoma National Polytechnic, while Kayole Starlets welcome Gideon Starlets at the EABL Tusker Grounds.
