As the Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier
League (FKF-WPL) enters its fourth round this weekend, Kayole Starlets head
coach George Kimani has called on his side to sharpen their concentration ahead
of Sunday's clash against Ulinzi Starlets.
Kayole Starlets took an early lead over the weekend
but allowed Mathare United Women, ‘Slum Girls’ to force a 1-1 draw, a setback
Kimani attributed to a tactical lapse.
Kimani has emphasised that maintaining focus
throughout the match will be crucial if his team are to secure positive
results.
“We raided our opponents so well but once we lose
concentration they were pushing us to our box and that is how we conceded
first. It’s something that we are going to work on before our next match.”
While acknowledging that momentary lapses are an
inevitable part of the game, Kimani stressed the importance of steady progress.
“Loss of concentration happens in a game if
football, although i will not rush them, its something we can work on gradually
hoping that they will learn and have the ability to concentrate from minute one
to the last”
The coach also rued missed scoring opportunities,
urging his players to be far more clinical in front of goal.
“It’s sad that we created chances but we failed to
capitalize on the opportunities that we got because we lost concentration here
and there.
"It happens in football but we will dress it in
our subsequent matches, because i feel we could have defended better.”
Kimani added that his team had targeted maximum
points in their previous fixture and was left disappointed to drop points
despite a strong overall performance.
“We needed to get the three points but unfortunately
we did not despite playing so well. There are some things we are trying and i
hope once the system starts working i believe we will get better results”.
Kayole Starlets currently sit fifth in the 12-team
standings with six points from three matches.
They opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw against newly promoted Shabana Starlets before edging Trinity Starlets 1-0 at home.
