Bungoma Queens have intensified their preparations ahead of a crucial Kenya Women’s Premier League fixture against Zetech Sparks scheduled for this weekend, with the team turning to friendly matches to sharpen their form after a lengthy break from competitive action.

The side has spent the past three weeks without a league match, prompting the technical bench to organize several build-up games aimed at maintaining match fitness and improving team coordination.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, head coach Godfrey Mabonga expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness, stating that the players are fully focused on securing maximum points in the upcoming encounter.

"We have stayed without playing for a long time but we have been preparing for the upcoming fixture against Zetech with friendly matches. It is a good team, we respect them but my girls want points, at least a point against Zetech," Mabonga noted.

Earlier in the season, Bungoma Queens had set their sights on finishing among the league’s top three teams. However, as the campaign approaches its final stretch, the club has adjusted its ambitions. Coach Mabonga admitted that a top-three finish is now unlikely, shifting the team’s focus toward ensuring they retain their place in the top flight next season.

"We have to fight and bounce. Our target is to finish among the top six, we have three matches remaining and I think we can achieve that, because the top three zone is impossible due to the point deduction that we faced,” he said.

With only three matches left before the league concludes, Bungoma Queens currently sit in eighth position on the standings with 19 points. Their spot leaves them just two positions above the relegation zone, making the remaining fixtures decisive in determining their survival.

The upcoming clash against Zetech Sparks is expected to play a significant role in shaping Bungoma Queens’ fate, as they aim to collect vital points and secure their status in the league.
