Diani Queens FC patron, Tumaini Mwachaunga has added his voice to the ongoing campaign against sports injuries in Kwale County.

Speaking to Citizen Digital following another horrific injury suffered by Diani Tigers FC's Grace Kimanzi, Mwachaunga has reiterated the need for coaches and sports teams to prioritize protecting athletes from serious injuries.

Grace Kimanzi suffered a fractured leg representing her school in the ongoing KSSSA ball games in Kwale County.

Speaking in a joint interview with Kwale Sports Excellence CBO, a sports community based organization, Mwachaunga who is also the leader of minority in the Kwale County Assembly has suggested the creation and implementation of policies to protect players from being injured, and to help facilitate their treatment in the event an injury occurs.

"These constant injuries suffered by players need to be a thing of the past. We are losing a lot of talented players who fail to fully recuperate after getting hurt," he stated.

"I intend to use my position as a lawmaker to help come up with policies to curb this issue once and for all."

His sentiments were echoed by Diana Heri who is the Programs Lead at Kwale Sports Excellence CBO.

"We launched in 'SAFETY FIRST' sports safety program to ensure cases like what we have witnessed recently do not happen again. We are asking all sports stakeholders in Kwale County to support us in our efforts to rid our sports of this stain."

Kimanzi is currently recuperating after surgery but this latest injury adds to the list of unfortunate injury incidents that have rocked the sports scene in the region.
