International polo returns to Nairobi this weekend as the annual Simon Kuseyo Tournament takes place at Jamhuri Park, featuring a contest between visiting players from Nigeria and their Kenyan counterparts.

The tournament honours the late Simon Kuseyo, one of Kenya’s most accomplished polo players, who rose to a five-goal handicap, the highest ranking achieved by a Kenyan player during his era.

Kuseyo competed internationally in countries including the UK, USA, Nigeria and South Africa, earning recognition for his skill and sportsmanship.

Established following his death in 2000, the tournament celebrates his contribution to the sport and recognises players who demonstrate exceptional performance, sportsmanship and integrity.

Tusker Malt is the title sponsor of this year's tournament. Speaking at the sponsorship announcement, Kenya Breweries Limited managing director Andrew Kilonzo said the partnership reflected shared values between the brand and the sport.

“The brand’s connection to the game is built on shared principles – the focus, patience and strategy required on the field mirrors the slow brewing process behind Malt,” he said.

Kilonzo said the tournament remained an important fixture on Kenya’s sporting and social calendar, adding that the company was pleased to support an event that honours one of the country's polo pioneers.

As part of its sponsorship, Tusker Malt will provide spectator facilities at the venue, including lounge areas, food pairings and refreshments.

The tournament begins on Saturday morning at the Nairobi Polo Club, with matches continuing through Sunday afternoon.
