President William Ruto, during his Mashujaa Day 2026 address at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret, announced that the additional funds will be provided by the end of 2026.
The Head of State described the Hustler Fund as a successful programme that has equalized borrowing among Kenyans.
We have also expanded access to affordable credit for millions of Kenyans previously excluded from formal financial services. Through the Hustler Fund, more than 10 million Kenyans are regular borrowers, and 98 billion has been advanced without collateral. By the end of this year, we will inject an additional Kenya shilling 5 billion into the Hustler Fund to expand access to credit and support more businesses,” said President Ruto.
The Head of State argued that Kenya’s economy has significantly grown since the Kenya Kwanza administration assumed office in September 2022.
“Over the last 4 years we have grown economy, stabilised exchange rate, brought inflation under control, expanded access to credit and reformed our capital market. As a result, credit to the private sector has expanded, the value of our stock market has doubled,” he said.
The President also noted that his government has undertaken reforms in trade and the agricultural sector.
He cited an Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union made in 2024, which would see Kenyan traders gain preferential access to the European market.
“In 2025, we signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the United Arab Emirates to expand opportunities for our exports while opening new markets in China. We have also secured continued access to the American market through the extension of Africa Growth and Opportunities Act, alongside ongoing negotiations for a broader trade agreement with the United States,” added President Ruto.
