The Kenya Property Developers Association (KPDA) has appointed Megna Homes CEO Ahmed Badawy to its Board of Directors, in a move that signals a growing focus on regional expansion, particularly along the Coast.

Badawy’s appointment comes as KPDA steps up efforts to strengthen its institutional presence beyond Nairobi, including plans to establish a Coast chapter. The initiative is aimed at addressing the distinct dynamics of the coastal property market and improving coordination with local stakeholders.

The Coast region, especially Mombasa and surrounding areas, has seen rising real estate activity in recent years. Growth has been driven by tourism, diaspora investment, and increasing demand for formal, investment-grade housing developments.

As CEO of Megna Homes, Badawy has overseen projects such as Santana, a gated community in Mtopanga, Mombasa, which has drawn attention for its focus on planned development and infrastructure-led design. His experience in the coastal market is expected to inform KPDA’s strategy in the region.

In a statement, Badawy said the Coast holds significant potential but requires better planning, collaboration, and policy alignment to sustain growth. He noted increasing demand for developments that combine lifestyle appeal with long-term investment value.

“I am honored to join the KPDA Board at such a pivotal time for Kenya’s real estate sector. The Coast region holds immense potential, but unlocking this potential requires collaboration, proper planning, and a shared vision among stakeholders,” said Mr Badawy in a media statement.

He added: “I look forward to working with KPDA to champion policies and frameworks that will support sustainable growth, attract investment, and formalize the sector in the Coast region.”

KPDA has in recent years intensified advocacy on issues affecting the sector, including regulatory bottlenecks, infrastructure deficits, and limited access to affordable financing. The association says expanding its regional footprint will help streamline development processes and strengthen engagement with county governments.

KPDA chairman Ken Luusa welcomed the appointment, expressing confidence that Badawy will support the board in advancing its mandate.

The proposed Coast chapter is expected to enhance coordination among developers and policymakers, while promoting structured urban growth. KPDA says the move is part of a broader effort to build a more cohesive and sustainable real estate sector across the country.
