Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) President, Reuben Ndolo has condemned the lack of recognition for boxers in the country ahead of Friday’s Ultra Fight Boxing Series.

The former legislator said the sport had been overlooked by the Government, urging the current administration to ‘give Kenyan fighters their flowers.’

"My plea is that these boxers get the recognition that they deserve. And I call upon the government to give these competitors their flowers.

"Someone who has been a world champion deserves recognition from fellow countrymen and the state, it is not an easy task," expressed Ndolo.

The KPBC president further wants the government to invest in combat sports as the commission seeks a joint venture with neighbours Uganda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

"We will be at the forefront of a joint venture with East and Central Africa nations to propel boxing to even greater heights,"announced Ndolo.

"The government should have faith in this sport and invest heavily in boxing just as in other sports."

Friday’s Ultra Fight Boxing Series at Broadwalk Mall in Parklands will see Kenya's Fatuma Zarika make her awaited comeback to the ring against Tanzanian Fatuma Omari.

Other bouts on the card will see the 22-year-old Albert Kimario take on Grey Chimkwapulo of Malawi with the Kenyan bidding to extend his unbeaten record in the series.
