Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) missed out on a podium finish at the Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA) Zone Five Qualifiers after suffering a 102-97 defeat to Tanzania’s Fox Divas in Kibaha.

The Dockers had hoped to replicate last year’s third-place finish, which earned them a wildcard entry to the continental finals in Cairo, Egypt.

However, the hosts had other plans, edging KPA by five points to claim the bronze medal.

KPA had beaten Fox Divas 90-60 in the group stage but struggled to contain the Tanzanian side in their classification match.

The defeat saw the 2023 WBLA silver medalists settle for fourth place in the eight-team competition.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s other representatives, Equity Hawks, defeated Tanzania’s Vijana Queens 73-46 to finish seventh.

Rwanda Energy Group (REG) claimed their maiden Zone Five title after beating defending champions APR 84-77 in Saturday’s final.

Burundi’s Dynamo finished fifth after defeating compatriots Les Hippos 74-66.

REG and APR secured qualification for the 2026 FIBA WBLA Finals, scheduled for December 11-20 in Cairo, Egypt.
