Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women’s basketball head
coach Samuel Ocholla has expressed frustration following the last-minute
postponement of the National Women’s Basketball Premier League final playoffs.
The best-of-five final series between defending
champions KPA and Equity Hawks was scheduled to tip off on Saturday and Sunday
with Games One and Two, respectively, but was postponed until further notice.
“It’s perfect, but something is not right mentally.
The girls were ready to play, and we had very good preparations. We were well
prepared and wanted to finish the league, put it behind us, and then focus on
preparing for Zone Five. However, some things are usually beyond our control,”
said Ocholla.
KPA booked their place in the final after sweeping
TH3 Swish 3-0 in their semifinal series, while Equity Hawks overcame Stanbic
Aces 3-2 to set up a showdown with the Dockers.
KPA will be seeking to defend their league title
against an Equity side eager to reclaim the championship.
The postponement comes as KPA intensify their
preparations in Mombasa ahead of the Zone Five Club Basketball Championship,
which is scheduled to tip off in Tanzania on October 17.
The Dockers will now have to balance their
title-defence ambitions with preparations for the regional competition as they
await further communication on the rescheduled league final.
