KNEC to introduce a mid-year series of KCSE exam

This was intimated by Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Migos on Thursday, noting that this targets candidates wishing to repeat their exam, or those who missed it due to unavoidable circumstances.

"Adult candidates may also consider registering for the July KCSE series examination," he said while releasing the 2024 KCSE results.

In the phase out of the 8-4-4 education system, the last class to sit KCSE exam will do the test in 2027. 

"Any person wishing to repeat fully or partially should take advantage of the remaining chances to do so," KNEC CEO David Njengere said during the release of the exams. 

Migos added that the Ministry of Education is working on integrating the use of Orbit Readers and phase out Braille machines in the administering KCSE examination in a bid to align with the global assessment practices.

Migos noted that 962,512 candidates sat the 2024 KCSE examination compared to 899,453 candidates in 2023.

Of these, 480,310 were male while 482,202 were female, making it the first time female candidates are more than male candidates since the inception of KCSE.

Migos further noted that out of the 30 subjects offered in the exam, 17 recorded a significant improvement in performance. 

These were Mathematics Alt. A & B, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History & Government, Geography, IRE, Agriculture, Woodwork, Metal Work, Drawing & Design, Aviation, Technology, Computer Studies, Kenyan Sign Language and Business Studies.

There was however a significant performance drop in English, Kiswahili, Biology for the Blind, CRE, Home Science, Building Construction, Electricity, French, German and Music.

Migos announced that 1,693 candidates obtained an overall grade A compared to 1,216 in 2023.

The number of candidates with direct university entry qualification of grade C+ and above was 246,391 compared to 201,133 in 2023.

Candidates who attained a pass grade of grade D+ and above were 605,774 compared to 526,222 in 2023.

However, 840 candidates who were involved in exam fraud had their exam results cancelled.

Candidates can check their results through https://results.knec.ac.ke by entering their index number and any of their names per the registration data for the 2024 KCSE exam. 

Meanwhile, KNEC CEO David Njengere has stated that the last KCSE examination will be administered in 2027, urging all those wishing to repeat fully or partially should take advantage of the remaining chances.
