Kitui: One dead after mob attack along Matuu-Mwingi highway

One person has died after being subjected to mob justice following a failed robbery attempt along the Matuu-Mwingi highway in Kitui County.

According to police reports, the deceased was part of a three-man gang believed to have been targeting businessmen in the area.

The gang, which was reportedly armed with crude weapons, attempted to rob a local trader near his shop.

However, members of the public raised the alarm, prompting nearby residents to intervene.

The suspect was cornered and beaten by the angry mob before police officers arrived at the scene.

His accomplices are said to have escaped on foot and are currently being sought by authorities.

The body of the deceased has since been moved to Kitui mortuary pending identification and post-mortem examination.

Authorities are also urging the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to report criminal activities to the nearest police station.
