Kisumu: Suspected drug traffickers escape after vehicle carrying bhang overturns

Police officers from Miwani Police Station in Kisumu County have launched a manhunt for suspected drug traffickers who fled the scene of a road accident, leaving behind sacks of bhang after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned.
According to police, officers responded to a road traffic accident along the Chemelil–Miwani–Kisumu Road at Ombeyi Junction after receiving reports from members of the public.
Upon arrival, officers established that the driver of a white Mazda CX-5, registration number KDX 905A, had lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road and rolled into a ditch.
Members of the public had reportedly rescued the occupants of the vehicle before alerting the police.
However, by the time officers arrived at the scene, the occupants had already escaped and their whereabouts remain unknown.
A subsequent search and processing of the accident scene led to the discovery of sacks containing bhang concealed inside the vehicle.
The drugs were recovered and secured as exhibits, while the vehicle was towed to Miwani Police Station, where it is being held pending further investigations.
Police have commenced investigations aimed at identifying and apprehending the suspects behind the illicit consignment.
