Kisumu Lakeside bounced back in style to register their first win of the 2026 season, overcoming Eldonets 66–55 in a gripping contest that was ultimately decided by a dominant third-quarter display.

Coming into the clash with a 1–0 deficit after falling to Equity Hawks, Lakeside knew the importance of a responseand they delivered.

They wasted no time asserting themselves, racing to a 20–14 lead in the opening quarter, setting the tone with sharp offensive execution and high defensive intensity.

Eldonets, who have endured a difficult start to the season, showed resilience in the second quarter. They edged it 17–14, tightening their defense and finding rhythm offensively to keep the game within reach heading into halftime.

However, it was the third quarter that proved decisive.

Lakeside turned up the pressure on both ends of the floor, holding Eldonets to just six points while pouring in 17 of their own. The one-sided quarter effectively broke the contest open, with Eldonets struggling to cope with the defensive intensity and tempo.

Top performer Jefferson Opiyo led the charge for Lakeside with 20 points, delivering when it mattered most, particularly during the game-defining third quarter. On the other end, Joshua Muhando stood out for Eldonets with 15 points, providing a bright spark in an otherwise difficult outing for his side.

Despite a late push in the final quarter, where Eldonets outscored Lakeside 18–15, the damage had already been done. Lakeside managed the closing stages well to seal a comfortable 11-point victory.

The result marks Lakeside’s first win in two matches this season, a timely boost as they look to build momentum in the early stages of the campaign.

For Eldonets, the loss adds to a worrying run of form. Having now played five matches with just one win against UON Terrorists, they will need to regroup quickly to turn their season around.

As the 2026 season gathers pace, Lakeside’s response signals a team capable of growth and resilience, while Eldonets are left searching for answers after another challenging outing.
