The defending basketball champions in the Kenya inter county games (KICOSCA) Nakuru County started their title defense with the wrong foot losing 26-13 to Kisumu County at the Embu University ground.

Nakuru started the match the better side winning the first quarter nine points to Kisumu’s seven but Kisumu came back the better side in the second quarter winning eight points against Kisumu’s two points heading to the halftime with a 15 to 11 lead.

There was less action in the second half with Nakuru not scoring a point in the third quarter while Kisumu scored five points while the last quarter Kisumu scored six points against Nakuru’s two points leaving them with the bragging rights at full time with a 26 -13 win.

Kisumu’s Michael Okelo was the MVP of the match scoring 10 points while Nakuru’s point guard Mugo Ndungu and Centre Michael Oluoch had the most fouls.

According to Kisumu’s captain James Odhiambo is that they followed the instructions given by their coach saying it was a plus for them in this tournament defeating the defending champions.

“We’re just from defeating the defending champions Nakuru County and I want to thank our coach and my team mates for the good work we have done today,” said Ohiambo.

He added that the game was intense but they gave their best especially in their defense and played according to how they had been training for the last two months in Kisumu.

On his part Nakuru’s captain Michael Oluoch said they had a difficult match since all the teams in the competition are coming for them.

“Our match today was a little bit tough being the defending champions everyone wants a piece of us so mine is to congratulate Kisumu for the win,” said Oluoch.

“We made a few tactical errors in our match against Kisumu which we want to rectify in our next matches,” he added.
