The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) in Kisii has announced the withdrawal of services by members working in public health facilities in the area.

In a notice dated July 15, the union informed the county of the withdrawal of services after the latter failed to adhere to conditions issued in June.

Please be aware that beginning tonight at 11.59 p.m., all doctors will be unable to work until all accumulated and pending pay and by-products have been settled in full,” KMPDU Nyanza branch announced in a letter dated July 15.

In the June 22 notice, the doctors had informed the county government that doctors would withdraw their services if their dues are not settled by the 5th day of the month.

KMPDU branch secretary general for Nyanza, Dr. Aggrey Orwenyo Nyabuti, said the union members that’s its members shall instantly initiate a go-slow whenever there is a delay beyond the 5th Day of the succeeding month.

In its conditions, the union also said its members would instantly scale back activities, providing only emergency services if the delay goes beyond the 10th day of the month.

If a delay goes beyond the 15th day of the month, the doctors would immediately withdraw their labour and skills until they are paid in full.

Delays in settling salaries and associated by-products have caused our members significant financial hardship and emotional pain,” noted Dr. Orwenyo.
