Police in Kisii have launched investigations following chaotic scenes witnessed in Endereti village, Bomachoge Borabu, where at least 10 people were injured after fighting broke out between two armed groups believed to be supporters of area Member of Parliament Obadiah Barongo and Governor Simba Arati.
The incident comes barely hours after another clash in Borabu Constituency during a separate public gathering, with locals expressing concern over the rising political violence in a region that has long been considered peaceful.
Amateur videos that have since sparked outrage on social media show a group of youths engaged in a violent confrontation at a funeral shortly after Governor Arati and his entourage arrived.
One man sustained deep cut wounds during the clash and was rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.
Governor Arati and MP Obadiah Barongo have each accused the other of orchestrating the attack.
The latest incident comes as leaders across the political divide condemn the growing wave of politically motivated violence in the Gusii region, accusing a section of leaders of fuelling the unrest.
A few weeks ago, Ichuni Member of County Assembly Wycliffe
Siocha was also attacked within Kisii town by suspected goons, allegedly over
his political stance.
