A 28-year-old Junior Secondary School (JSS) teacher was found murdered and her body dumped near Nyamindi River in Mwea East Sub-County, Kirinyaga County, on Thursday morning.

Relatives said Beaty Wanjiru Nyaga, who taught at Ithiga ria Njuki Primary School in Riagiceru Location, was last seen on Monday. Her cousin, Sarah Njeri, a teacher at St Paul Primary School, described her as “a dedicated teacher and a loving mother” and expressed shock over her brutal death.

Nyangati Location Chief, Immaculate Wanjiru Njoka, noted that the body appeared to have been killed elsewhere before being dumped at the scene. Nyaga’s father, Jeremiah Nyaga, told police that he received a call around midnight from the suspect, Peter Kanumbi of Nguchui village, who claimed to be his daughter’s boyfriend and said she was found at Mugomoini and was unresponsive.

Police from Wang’uru Police Station are investigating the murder, and detectives are actively searching for the suspect, who remains at large. Chief Njoka said, “It is alleged that her boyfriend, from Nguchui village, is responsible for her death.”

The family is calling for justice for the slain teacher, who leaves behind a young child. Sarah Njeri appealed to the public for assistance, saying, “We want justice for our daughter who has left a child. Anyone with information should come forward.”
