KFS warns over fake forest ranger recruitment letters

KFS said the letters are fraudulent and that members of the public seeking employment opportunities with the Service should not rely on them.

In a public warning, the service said it had not advertised vacancies for Forest Rangers, cautioning job seekers against falling for the documents being circulated.

"The public is advised to beware of conmen circulating fake letters of Forest Ranger recruitments,” KFS stated in the warning issued on Tuesday, September 29.

The fake letters seen circulating contain details of purported recruits and direct them to report to the Forest Law Enforcement Academy (FOLEA) in Londiani for medical examinations and training.

The documents also contain joining instructions listing items such as original identification documents, academic certificates, bank details, KRA PIN certificates and passport-size photographs, in an apparent attempt to make them appear genuine.

KFS, however, urged anyone who receives such documents to treat them as fraudulent and report suspected cases to the nearest police station.

The service further reminded members of the public that genuine vacancies are advertised through its official website and in local daily newspapers.

KFS currently maintains an official careers platform where recruitment opportunities are published. Its website also carries a dedicated section for job vacancies and other official announcements.

The warning comes as interest in public-sector employment remains high among job-seeking Kenyans, making recruitment-related scams a potential avenue for fraudsters to target applicants hoping to secure positions in government agencies.

The timing is particularly significant for young people seeking opportunities with KFS, as Forest Ranger recruitment and subsequent training have previously attracted large numbers of applicants.
