Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has launched a probe into reports of a python being spotted in Karura Forest in the course of the week, citing that photos circulating online are yet to be authenticated.

Taking to social media, KFS acknowledged past cases of pythons roaming in the forest, namely in 2019 and 2022, but pointed out that the recent case is still under investigation.

The entity cautioned all visitors to the forest to walk or jog along the designated paths and tracks only.  Further, those with pets were advised to keep them on a leash along the designated tracks.

In case of any sighting, KFS urged the visitors to report the matter immediately to the Forest Rangers located at the various gates.

"Kenya Forest Service will collaborate with relevant government agencies to explore potential solutions to this matter and will advise the public accordingly," the statement read in part.
