The Kenya Federation of American Football (KFAF) has announced the return of the Nairobi Region Flag Football League, marking another major milestone in the growing popularity of the sport across the country.

The 2025–2026 season kicked off on September 28 at the Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) and will feature eight match days hosted by various universities across Nairobi and its environs.

According to the fixture list released by KFAF, games will be played at Zetech University, USIU-Africa, Kenyatta University, Mount Kenya University (Thika), JKUAT, the University of Nairobi, and KCA University. All matches are scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The season will run until early 2026, with the final two rounds set for March 1 at the University of Nairobi and March 7 at KCA University.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, KFAF President George Alwanga reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to growing the sport within learning institutions, noting that the league offers students a chance to experience structured and competitive American football in a safe, non-contact format.

“The league continues to attract new players, schools, and fans each season. Our goal is to build a strong foundation for the sport in Kenya while promoting teamwork, fitness, and leadership among young athletes,” said Alwanga.

Flag football, a non-contact version of American football, continues to gain traction locally, with both men’s and women’s teams increasingly participating in regional competitions.
